spring 2023 book reviews…

Two years ago, I made a goal to read one book per month. I am happy to say I have far exceeded that goal!

For far too long, I had put reading on the back burner. I decided to quit making excuses and cut way back on phone usage, and utilized free reading apps from my local library. I discovered I actually have quite a few pockets of time to listen to books!

If you are looking for a good Summer vacation book or your next read, I hope this list helps. Here are 8 books I read & loved this Spring…

The Last Thing he Told me by Laura Dave

This book was suspenseful and intriguing until the very end. Also, I was pleasantly surprised at how clean this book was, nothing too graphic or heavy. This was turned into a mini tv series with Jennifer Garner and was also excellent.

I recommend to read the book first and then watch!

The Cost of Control by Sharon Hodde Miller

I really enjoyed this one. This book dives deep into why our nature craves control and how our society perpetuates it. It gives practical solutions from scripture and is an easy read that causes you to really self examine. Highly recommend!

Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks

This is an author that I will read every single title he puts out. The main character is an aspiring musician whose dreams were altered because of life circumstances. As always, his books have a complicated and sweet love story woven in.

Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend

I’m very late to the party to reading this one. It was direct, clear and puts words to struggles we all face. Life pulls us in so many directions, we need the reminder of this book to stay focused on what’s most important and how to practically do that.

Finlay Donovan is Killing it by Elle Cosimano

I LOVED this one. It was quirky, had me laughing out loud, and a mystery wrapped into one. The way the author tells this story had me captivated from start to finish!

Modern Miss Mason by Leah Boden

Although we don’t homeschool our children, I feel there are dozens of practical applications and take aways for all parents or anyone who works in any capacity with children. It was fascinating, thought provoking, and beautifully written.

The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness - by Timothy Keller

This is a short read, only 3 chapters, but jam packed with wisdom. It focuses on about 10 scriptures in 1 Corinthians chapter 3 & 4 and dissects what it truly means to have humility from a biblical perspective. Excellent read and I know I will reference this book again and again.

A Novel Proposal by Denise Hunter

This story is set in South Carolina on the coast. This author was new to me, and while a tad predictable, it was still a sweet story if you are looking for something light and fun to read!

I hope something from this list has piqued your interest. If you also love reading and have let go making it a priority in your life, here is your encouragement to choose one of these titles and make time for yourself to read this Summer!
